A bad user manual is like a Rube Goldberg device. It uses a complex and confusing process to accomplish a simple task. Nobody wants to leaf through a phone-book sized manual to use their toaster. This also holds true for high-tech equipment used by trained professionals.

The best manuals are organized to present concise, accurate information that is easy to find, (even if the manual is the size of a phone book)!

I have been writing User Manuals for six years. Much of my work is used by consumers as well as expert IT and forensic personnel. I also write training guides, quick-start guides, white papers, knowledge base entries and even Power Point seminars. I am familiar with SEO (Search Engine Optimization) writing for the web, and utilize it regularly on auction sites.

My biggest skill is that I am able to learn products and processes quickly. This skill comes from my many years in technical support, where you need to become an expert on a piece of equipment in a short amount of time.

Please take a look at my samples below. If you feel that my experience matches your needs, please contact me with the feedback form available here. I look forward to hearing from you!

Bratz Movie Studio Playset - MGA Entertainment
Instruction Manual
This manual explains how to set up and use the single-frame digital camera that comes with this playset. The best part about this project was that I was able to share some of my animation knowledge!

TALON Forensic Drive Duplication System - Logicube Inc.
User Manual
This User Manual was written for both the novice and knowledgeable user in mind. It is still used today by law enforcement personnel all over the world. I also created the illustrations.

External Battery - Logicube Inc.
User Manual
This manual is for a simple device (a rechargeable battery), yet it needed to be very thorough for use in forensic applications. I also created the illustrations and tables. I even took the front cover photo!

Cloning Windows Vista - Logicube Inc.
White Paper
This white paper was distributed to Logicube’s customers when Windows Vista hit the market.

I use Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat for most of my work, but I am familiar with Quark Xpress as well as Adobe Framemaker. I am also familiar with the format and style necessary for a variety of technical documents and reports for engineering, executive and financial audiences.
